|One of the most common complaints in using the Braun Tassimo espresso maker is that all the lights flash when trying to make the coffee. Before assuming that the unit has a serious problem, try checking two things:
(1) Make sure the bar code reader on the brewer is clean of coffee residue. If the machine cannot read the bar code on the t-disc clearly, all of the lights will flash rather than moving to the next step to brew the coffee.Clean the bar code reading window with a damp cloth. It is also very helpful to use the cleaning disc at least once a week to assure that the problems to not develop in this area.
(2) Check the magnet assembly. The Tassimo is designed to check that the water reservoir is filled with water and properly placed on the unit before allowing the brew unit to make the coffee. The magnet is designed to float in the water reservoir compartment at a specific level to create a magnetic attraction to a corresponding magnet inside the brewer. If the magnet is missing, or the magnet no longer works (water has gotten inside the charcoal colored magnet holder), then the machine will not operate.
Try taking the magnet out of the water reservoir and shaking it back and forth. If you hear a clicking sound (the magnet inside the holder hitting the sides of the holder), the magnet is usually good--try reinstalling the magnet, fill the reservoir with water, and try making coffee. If there is no "clicking" sound, the magnet holder may have leaked, and water entering the holder has destroyed the magnet. You will need to order a new magnet before making coffee.
Please note that should your unit take a water filter, and the water filter is no longer good, or missing, it will not affect the operation of your unit. However, when a new filter is replaced it must be soaked for 30 minutes before using.
Should these solutions fail to make your Tassimo work, and the lights are still flashing, you may need to replace the circuit board, normally a job for a small appliance technician.
