The time to move begin college is approaching and if you're staying in the dorms, your back to school list just got that much longer. Back-to-school shopping should be fun rather than stressful and by creating a list of must-haves and sticking to it, you can ensure a successful shopping trip and awesome dorm room. Below are five must-haves to consider for your first year away at college.

  1. Storage Bins
When it comes to smaller spaces (read: college dorm rooms), organization is key to keeping the room tidy. Storage bins that can be stacked under beds are ideal for keeping extra clothing that you don't necessary use on a regular basis but also provide easy access in case you need something quickly. Rather than take up unnecessary space in your small closet or dresser, opt for storage bins to store things neatly and efficiently.
  2. Kitchen Items
While you might not have the biggest area for cooking, it's still a necessity for dorm room living. Kitchen supplies such as a hot pot, utensils, water filter, and a coffee maker are all essential to survive in a college dorm room. Don't forget to bring extra filters for your water filter, as well as extra necessities for your coffee maker, such as Krups coffee maker water filters for some late night studying.
  3. Shower Supplies
Unfortunately, showering at a college dormitory doesn't offer the same luxury as showing in the privacy of your own home. Because of this, it's important to invest in some waterproof flipflops for the shower, as well as a well-stocked bath caddy to carry all of your essentials to and from the showers. Stock up on towels and invest in some type of robe if you don't already have one.
  4. Bedding
Buying bedding for college is a little different from shopping for bedding at home. Keep in mind that most colleges offer extra-long beds so you may need to invest in a set of extra-long sheets. Consider a back rest for when you don't feel like sitting at your desk, as well as some bed risers to give you some extra storage space.
  5. Laundry Supplies
While it might not get done as much as it should, laundry is still a necessity in college. Aside from the typical detergent and dryer sheets, consider investing in a fold-up hamper with handles that's as easy to carry as it is to fold up when not in use.

These are just a few college necessities – most colleges offer lists to newcomers with a list of things to bring and things to avoid. Other fun items include a marker board for your door, some wall décor, and of course, school supplies!
